Anneke was absolutely amazing again last week in Helsinki. New songs were so good in live. There is some songs which I don't care much when I listen to them from cd (like Mental Jungle) but in live these songs sounded good. 1000 Miles Away From You was so beautiful, it was the song which I really wanted to hear. I still think My Boy is best live song from her, it was even better than I remembered. Her energy is just so amazing and she's so sweet everytime.

It was nice to talk with her after the gig again and I hope she'll come back to Finland again next year.  :D

My Boy is my favourite post-Gathering song. Lovely lyrics and that chorus is just fantastic.

Remembered these two gems again:

Gathering - In Motion 2 (Sound Relief)

I prefer this to the Mandylion version. It's much more punchy and it's good that they left out some of the empty spaces and this version is tighter.

Waking Hour

Probably my favourite Gathering-song. That "fight is done and who are we to judge"-part gets me every time.

^ Waking Hour is such a beautiful song. Like you, I was always moved at those part up to the last note.

And btw, that's the best performance of this song I have ever heard. Touching!

It certamily is.  And this is also my main problem with Annie's solowork, the lyrics. Earlier the lyrics were like this:

The fight is done and who are we to judge what will become

All the iron armour is laid down away, followed by the heroes, who belong in rested earth

We pray

We feel the rescue coming near

Within the woken soul to hear, we sence the calm all wrapped in fear

And all the while we heed, the sences way too vast to see

We beg of you to not let go, our names provide us with a soul.

That's deep and meaningful and beautifully matched to the music. Songs like this or Amity, Even the Spirits are Afraid, Herbal Movement and so many others really show what kind of talent she has lyrically.

And now we have:

Your eyes, your shoes/Sunglasses on, I'm driving etc.

I'm not saying I like every Gathering lyric there is or that you can't make deep, meaningful lyrics in more straightforward and simpler way ( My Boy the best example). And I don't think everything she has made post-Gathering is crap (like some people do) . I'm not one those "pop"-haters, either. Sometimes plain simple joy of life is good. But, overall, I do feel Anneke has lost some of her edge as a songwriter. I think she should sharpen up her pen and but more thought and soul to her work. It's become quantity over quality and that bothers me a bit. We all know how talented she is and I think she should utilize her talent better. I'm not expecting that everything that comes out her pen is a masterpiece, but more thoughtprovoking music would be better.

I also think the same way too. ALL her lyrics with The Gathering are poetic and really great!

Although I like her songwriting in her solo work, I still think the newer ones were quite cheesy and fits for poppy sound. I don't know, but maybe we'll get more in the future.

I hope so. I miss those thoughtprovoking stories Anneke has written and I hope she goes back to that kind of lyrics in the future.

But there not all bad, of course. I've always liked this good mood song they wrote with Devin Townsend:

Just Fine

After watching more videos in this thread,  I find myself sold more and more towards Anekke's charming voice and vibe!

I have to say that songs like Just Fine are my favorite so far, even if some may find them poppy/cheesy. I could see myself playing this sort next to some of Anette's better new songs.

This is also one of her better songs, imo.

Adore

And this one is probably my favourite song alongside with My Boy and Circles. And when Anneke gets most of the attention, with this song my main focus is on the drums. Nice fills, Anneke's husband Rob is not the most techinical or the fastest drummer, but I like his basic, cool, hard-hitting rock-style drumming.

Stay

Right now, I'm overdosing myself with "In Your Room" (more especially with songs "Physical" and "I Want"). That album is so trippuish and gave you that "on-the-go" feeling, that will surely put smiles on your day. :)

Ah, now Anette is coming to Budapest on 4th April. It's Friday, so I could make it seeing her with one day-off from work, but I will have so many expenses in May and June, I'm afraid to put that event also on the agenda.....

Baki... Anette?  :D

I saw the tourdates. I have winter holiday and it would be awesome travel to see Anneke in April. Budapest or Berlin would be nice and cheap choice...

Pretty easy to confuse these names.

And, btw, Anneke van Giersbergen is the most misspelled name in heavy music. I once saw Anette von Giersberg :).  Even in a Imperiumi record review they put von in. She's not german, dammit :) .

They are touring together in May too, but only in South-America. Really nice clips from Progressive Nation, checked a couple more from youtube.

Yes, sadly. Meaning I really hope they would come back to Finland some day. Their shows here were magical.

And Axelle does have a lot of really good clips from Annies gigs. This being one of my favourite ones:

Anneke&Danny - Untouchable 2

The other YT-user, who's Anneke-videos I would recommend is Dastard:

That's a gorgeous video. A great powerful atmospheric song, with Anekke completely submerged in what she's singing! And I can't get over how intriguing and special her voice is. She truly is a great great artist!

Another nice clip of that song:

1000 Miles Away From You - Poznan

Kind of shows what kind of person Anneke is. And of course climbing on stage in the middle of a song is forbidden and Anneke is well known from her style to chitchat with her fans after the shows. But this one is nicely done.

Wow, this was adorable! I think I'd die of happiness if I were in that guy's shoes (not that I'd dare climb the stage anyway). But he was being respectful towards her, and she showed what a down-to-earth person she is.

I would've been a bit scared if I were her, but she was so sweet and graceful. I'm surprised there was no security escorting the guy off the stage, they all behaved like nothing was wrong, Annekke included. Her baffled smile was priceless, though

I agree, it makes me smile seeing her smile like that. Also the guy was so respectful and he act pretty decent on stage.
