Wow until the end of 2018? That's basically two years. So we'll probably get a new album late 2019 early 2020.

Soundi has reported that after October the band will be on hiatus until the end of 2018 :

http://www.soundi.fi/uutiset/nightwish-jaa-luovalle-tauolle-tuomas-holopainen-kertoo-paatoksen-taustoista-soundille/

I've not confirmed this with anyone but since Kai shared it, it must be true.

*insert family starting rumours here* ;)

Actually the Soundi article says that the break will end early 2018.

This is necessary and well earned. They have been maintaining a breakneck schedule and Tuomas must be creatively-exhausted after Scrooge and Endless Forms.

I wish they could adopt a less intense schedule for the next album cycle but I'm not sure they can, given their global appeal.

I wish them the best and I can't wait for the next album!

In the meantime... maybe we'll get a new ReVamp album :D

Oh ok. They always take long breaks so I don't see the difference here.

It's obvious Tuomas ran out of ideas and has no clue what to write next :P

They have Kai from Wintersun. So I'm sure they are taking it because we all know how long it took for the album to come out. I'm sure they are doing it for his sack. :P I mean you go to fast and he may go back to Wintersun. :P

Here's to hoping this means Marco will show up for Delain's 10th anniversary concert

2018 sounds awfully long though... Even though it might not be that much longer than it normally is

The break between albums is going to be something around 4 or 5 years.

That might sound long, but it has been normal for the band so I don't see

any problem with it. I rather wait for the new album a bit longer and get

a great album than force the band to bring another boring album sooner...

Here's to hoping we will get an actual Marco & Troy album or even a minitour?

This seems pretty standard to me, and I didn't really expect any new material until late 2018 at the EARLIEST. The band has stated that they have the future of the band mapped out until about 2020 or so, which sounds like they know approximately when the next album and touring cycle are due.

I think it's impossible to expect any less than a three year gap between albums anymore. The albums are much bigger in scale than they once were, and they tour much more widely than they used to. They deserve to have a break after two years of intense touring, and I'm fine with allowing them as much time as necessary to do what they need to do (side projects, some family creation/bonding time, gathering new inspiration) in order to deliver us something incredible for NW9. We assume that the year long break will involve no writing on Tuomas' part, but that might not be the case either. The early 2018 date might just indicate the point where Nightwish will gather to begin arranging what Tuomas has composed during 2017. This could mean a new album by the end of 2018/early 2019, and then touring across 2019-2020. This is still only a 3-4 year gap between albums, and fits the timeline most of us have anticipated.

We have so much to keep us occupied in the meantime, and I'm pretty sure a post-tour DVD will tide any of our latent Nightwish cravings over during the break. It seems like it's going to be a long time, but it really isn't. Time goes quickly... I mean, come on - Imaginaerum was released almost FIVE years ago :swoon: .

I'm sure the DVD is going to be great and that will keep us happy for some months. Then they will manage to come up with something interesting while we are waiting for their next album: a new single, an EP with old songs but with new arrangements or something like that.

Uhh...they say the're going to take the year off, so I really doub't they'll record a new single or bring out an EP.

Not in 2017, but I mean before the album, which we don't know when will be released.

Nightwish haven't done anything like that since 2001, so don't hold your hopes up.

Yeah, i expect the next new thing from Nightwish (not counting the dvd) to be the single for NW9 pobably a couple of months before the album release.

Yep, that seems likely... A little off topic but hopely the next single will be better than Èlan... ;)

Any single can be better than Elan...

Do you not like Elan at all? Or do you just dislike it as a "single"?

I don't like it at all. Not as a single, neither as a part of the album. It just deserves a bonus track place, something like The heart asks pleasure first or Escapist (bad deserved bonus tracks), but nothing more. It has nice lyrics and spirit yeah, but I think Nightwish can do better than that. Any song on the album could've been a better single.

I also hope for the next album to have some good bonus tracks, just like Once or Dark Passion Play had

Meh... Troy's pipe melodies are ok and by far the best part of the song. And pretty much everything else is flat and poppy. I kind of understand the song as a single, because Nightwish's singles are usually their more poppy and radio friendly songs. But personally I think Sagan would have been a better song for the album.

The official Russian fanclub wrote on Facebook that they met the band at an airport in Voronezh. Tuomas said that Nightwish will take a break with material already done for the next album and that we'll have new music within three years and a half. Also, the content for the live DVD/Blu-ray is ready and it should be released right after the tour.

If there are any errors in the translation, please correct me.
