Within Temptation

True, it seems to lack energy. And Sharon sings the lines differently, with a slightly different melody, which does no justice to this incredible song at all.

But wow, that video you (CenturyChild) posted is amazing! :)

That first preformance was OK. Mother Earth is an appropriate song for a pregnant lady :P It might have been better IMO, if she'd been wearing a nice long dress or something though lol

I love Within Temptation. I actually saw them live a few months ago, and it was awesome! Sharon has one of the best voices on this Earth..! :)

The new album was good as the older ones. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. And it all was really good live also. I thought it wouldn't sound really the same as on the recorded version, but it did! Not everyone can sing as good live as on their CD¨s. Sharon Den Adel deserves the prices ;)

First time I see them live was awesome. I love this band, last album isn't of my favourites but it's good. The best album for me always will be The Silent Force, it's special.

For me Within Temptation are very very important because of them I got to Nightwish and all the other great bands :)

But I have to say, that I don't like the new album very much... My favourite album is - and will always be - "The Silent Force" ;)

So: WT is a great band, but I don't like their change of music.

I was a WT fan.

Not anymore. The thing that drew me to them was how she used her high range. Very unusual for music, I thought. I like that sound from her and I feel that she has just become a sell-out.

^ Sellout? wha?? how? I'm sorry but that's the dumbest thing I've ever read in these forums lol

Um... what? LOL

She just experiments with her voice. She still sings in her high range, maybe not so much on this album, but one of their b-sides "The Last Dance" she does. It's not like she gave it up. And her changing her range is hardly "selling-out" to anything. It was a personal choice of hers. And TU isn't a sell-out either by any means. Some songs may sound more commercial, but other songs would never survive commercialism. Not that it should matter. It's not like ther has NEVER been a good song to hit the radio.

Yes, I agree. Their later songs are much better. I like the Unforgiving. It was much better than Destroyed.

actually I used to like just a few WT songs but because of this album (The unforgiving), I heard their previous albums again and try to see the ''touch'' and just fell in love with this band, I dont know why I didnt notice it before.

I really like WT, new and old. I was a bit hesitant about The Unforgiving, it sounded a bit too "poppy" but now I love it as much as the others. And it was amazing live in Manchester in November - even though Sharon had a few voice troubles.

On the subject of Enter, part of me wishes they carried up with that style a bit, a bit of growling can sound good next to her voice.

^ lol, I agree. I hate how something being "poppy" (even if technically it isn't) instantly = bad.

What if it's just bad, and happens to be "poppy"?

As for WT, I'm a bit divided as to what I'd consider a personal favorite. I do like Enter, but to me it sounded like a bit of "Theatre of Tragedy-lite", albeit with a better vocalist. But if they possessed the technical skill they developed later on at the time when they recorded Enter, it really could've been an album which made waves.

Ice Queen would also be in the running, but it had a little too much filler.

I did enjoy Sharon's collaboration with Armin van Buuren, even though it's not really a style I'd normally give a ***** for.

Heard some songs from releases after Ice Queen, and gave up all hope on this band at that point.

I guess you mean Mother Earth. ;)

Yeah, I had myself a blonde moment there, and got the names crossed between the album and the EP which preceded it. I blame old age.

Sorry if I offended anyone with the "poppy" comment.

It's not necessarily a bad thing but it was a change from what I was used to (and liked) from WT. As I said I now love the new album

It's ok, you didn't offend! I think we were just making a point. A lot of people do use that to seem to indicate it's bad. And of course there are some songs that are bad and "poppy." On the same note there are good songs that are "poppy" ;).

I have been a fan of Within Temptation for YEARS! I have admired Sharon's voice since the very start of my fandom.

The Unforgiven is definitely something new compared to their earlier work, but that doesn't make it bad, in fact I like this turn. I really enjoyed the concert I was to in October when they were here in Denmark, and I am so impressed that Sharon is still able to reach the high notes in Ice Queen and Mother Earth even though she has been pregnant three times.

I also have been working on a musical based on Within Temptation songs xD
