    Sirenia

So Sirenia have now their own "Bye Bye Beautiful"- hommage. It is the song "Queen of Lies" a.k.a. Ailyn The new album itself is ok. It is not their best (that are "Perils of the deep blue sea" and "An elixir for existence"), but not their worst ("The Seventh Life Path", "The Enigma of Life"). However, I enjoyed Østen Bergøy´s (ex-Tristania) guest singing, although it is too short.

    Anette Olzon (2º part)

I need a full video of that gig. Yeah, it seems like she is now more comfortable with the songs, great. I can´t wait for the second album

    Decades World Tour 2018

Sadly, I can not hear Floor in "Gethsemane" , because an euphoric fan entertains us with his "magnificent" voice (badadadada). Although "The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean" was awesome as always..

    Sirenia

Ok, the song itself is too chaotic and has no good structure. Less would be more. If it was only Emma and some growls ot would work better, but it does not work as a mix between Yannis, Morten, some "black metal" style interlude (at ca. 2:45 min), cheesy electronic elements and a little bit of choir in the end. I like "Dim Days of Dolor" and I love Emmanuelles parts in this new song, but overall it is too much and hectic, sadly. I am hoping that the other songs will sound better.

    Therion

Sad, I liked her. She is so energetic and happy on stage. Has someone listened to her own band QFT? Their album "Live in space" is great.

    Within Temptation

I like it and the heavier direction. In my opinion the guitars sound now more like nu metal (reminds me a bit of Lacuna Coil´s "Delirium"). I´m positivly surprised. WT are one of the few bands, that are constantly changing and that is what I appreciate the most on them

    Beyond the Black

But Amy Lee was/is one of the main songwriters in Evanescence. In difference, Jennifer is not so much involved in songwriting, which is done by others such as Sascha Paeth etc. Martin has already said that and I agree with his opinion. Beyond the Black are also on a "mainstream" label (a sub-label of Universal) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and are pushed hard by several private tv-channels, which are connected with the label. For my taste it is too calculated and profit-orientated, although I like guitarist Chris, because he also plays in "Serenity"

    Sirenia

As far as I know Jonathan was not involved in the departure of Ailyn and did not know it (I think Morten decided it alone). However, the picture above is from the premiere of the new "Green Carnation"-live dvd, where he plays drums. Sirenia does not have "real" band members in terms of songwriting or playing instruments in studio, most of it is done by Morten. I think Jonathan has a daily job, so probably he can´t tour that much. ( Wikipedia says: "Besides music, he works for the company Scan Trade, which is a subsidiary of the Umbro brand in Norway.") So they work with touring drummers like Roland Navratil (ex-Edenbridge, ex- Leaves Eyes) or Jon Rice. But it could also be that Jonathan is not a part of Sirenia anymore. It is a mystery

    Anette Olzon

Yeah, I like her interpretation of "The Siren" also much. More recent news, Jani is currently writing new songs for the second TDE album:

    Ask Troy [OPEN]

Hello Troy, do you like folk metal bands like for example Eluveitie or Korpiklaani? Did you ever met other pipes or flute players, who play in a metalband, on a festival? Did you ever play a Great Highland bagpipe? Is there any other instrument that you would like to learn in the future (maybe didgeridoo)?

Hi Tuomas, If you could explore an ocean or a lake with a submarine/research vessel, which one would it be? Greetings from Germany and thanks for your wonderful music!

    Within Temptation

I wonder if they will go into a more "hard rock", 80s style again or more "commercial" (electro-pop etc.) direction. Vertigo is known for progressive rock bands and mainly Black Sabbath. But Tarja´s "My Winter Storm" and "What Lies beneath" were also released by Vertigo/Universal. So I have no idea how different the new album will sound (that´s exciting). But I like it that they are evolving their sound in the last decade.
  15. Interesting that they recorded their new orchestral backing tracks in Budapest and not in London this time. Maybe for the next album they will not work with Pip Williams and the English orchestra anymore (or less/no orchestra)?
