Well... this was a lot better than I expected. I honestly think some people here are prepared to bash those songs before even hearing it. And yes I kind of subscribe to Thomas-Troy conspiracy theory

    PINK FLOYD

Since this was one of my most played songs last year I am very curious what do you think of this cover. Also what songs or albums would you recommend for someone who wants to get more into Pink Floyd.

    Cover songs

Avenged Sevenfold's masterful spin on Pink Floyd's classic "Wish You Were Here" which I would dare to say is better than original if I didn't fear the backlash

    Your Favourite Albums of 2017!

Not very good year, but still there were few great ones. In no particular order: 1. Ayeron - The Source - Great album, has all great Ayeron elements, great singers, great delivery 2. MYRKUR - Maredit - Surprised that no one mentioned it. Much better than first one. Still bitter that I've first heard of them few days after they played in my city. 3. Epica - The Solace System - Very good EP, maybe it would be better if they released all the songs as double album. 4. Avenged Sevenfold - Live At The GRAMMY Museum - Acoustic live album played with orchestra, first time they done this and It turned out great. 5. Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage Deluxe Edition - OK , I'm cheating on this one. It is album from the last year but this version has one new song plus six covers with my favorite being "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. OK albums Exit Eden - Rhapsodies in Black Wintersun - The Forest Seasons Arch Enemy – Will to Power

I think I read somewhere that It is gonna be The Holographic Principle song that they will record with Metropole Orchestra.

Just saw that they won't cover Attack on Titan song, what a pity

It is one of the best soundtracks in anime of all time in my opinion. If they let me chose i would picked it too. But this song especially is one of my favorites in any genre, and I can't wait to hear what they will make out of it, especially Simone singing part in German at the end. On the other hand it seems they haven't yet officially announced so maybe something changed.

Although I can agree that some metal singers are overrated by the fans the same could be said for any other genre, even for classical singers. But on the other hand a lot of metal singers are easily comparable to the classical ones when it comes to the technique, range and overall quality. Ron Anderson, an opera singer and arguably most famous vocal coach as of today said for the singer of Avenged Sevenfold M Shadows that he is one of the best singers alive. He said the similar thing about the Axl Rose who by the way has the range bigger than 5 octaves. Surely a man of his credibility has some say in the matter. When it comes to other instruments i believe you would struggle to find guitarists with the skill of John Petrucci among the classically trained musicians. The same could be said abut other members of Dream Theater. While there is no dispute that musicians who come out of conservatories are better than your average metal musician, metal musicians are underrated among public even among metal fans themselves.

I hoped that they would have some shows in eastern Europe but its not unexpected since they really don't have a lot of fans around here.

    Your Favourite Albums of 2016

This year for me was solid in therms of releases even though i hear a lot of people that are little unhappy with 2016. Great albums: Epica - The Holographic Principle (was there any other choice really ) Gojira - Magma (I know lot of you don't listen to them but this album got Grammy nomination and rightly so) Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage (Again lot of people have prejudice towards them but this is great album with lyrical theme that is something like combination of latest NW and Epica album. They even got famous scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson on last track. Sounds familiar ?) Metallica - Hardwired to Self-Destruct (Return of the King's.For the Fans of lighter stuff check Halo On Fire It is a masterpiece) Sabaton - The Last Stand (Not the most musically and structurally complex but it's catchy as hell) The Witcher 3 soundtrack (this was actually 2015 but this is great album with exceptional combination between Film and slavic folk music.) Good albums: Amon Amarth - Jomsviking Tarja - The Shadow Self / The Brightest Void Opeth - Sorceress Fleshgod Apocalypse - King Lacuna Coil - Delirium

There is absolutely no way that you can get whole grasp of the album such as THP in only 2 listens.

    Nightwish Off Topic

For me it's always a pleasure, I've though of making it a weekly thing, maybe a video series, one by one, but time constraints don't let me, maybe one day. If you have a a project unleash it! It would be lots of fun. It's something me and some users from the Argentinean forum have been doing back in the days, 2008-2010. It started as a translation project, so there was a lot of explanation of exophoric/external references, some discourse analysis and in-depth interpretation. Then one of the users added some musical semiology knowledge on it. We extended all of that to videos and imagery from booklets and stuff. Here's big part of it: dhost.info/nwcommentary (if the link doesn't work, go check my profile) (Ignore the Office '95 layout I did my best with my poor knowledge of web design) I've been toying with the idea of choosing one song, start a new topic and the give it everything we got, comments, thoughts, references, interviews about it, whatever comes to mind and may help. But I'm afraid we end up being only 3 or 4 people interested in it. Stargazer_voyager was one my allies in the commentary project, so we're 2 for sure at least, right? Fantastic idea lets give it a try.I would certainly love to see discussion and overlapping opinions which there surely are on this forum .At worst few of us will have something to brag abut.
